One of the most famous, and tragic, love stories of all time, Carmen tells an age old tale of love turned to jealously turned to hate. In it, Don José, an already troubled soul, falls for the rebellious and free-spirited Carmen at first sight. Though briefly interested, Carmen quickly loses interest in the uptight and possessive José, turning her attentions instead to the flashy and famous toreador, Escamillo. Don José, unable to handle Carmen’s rejection, is driven to despair and madness.

A true story, Cipullo’s Glory Denied tells the story of Jim Thompson, the longest serving American prisoner-of-war in history. Imprisoned for 9 horrendous years in Vietnam, Thompson struggled to hold on to life and sanity, while at home his wife fought to manage a home and raise children without a partner and provider. Upon returning to America, instead of a joyous homecoming, he found a world and a family unrecognizable to him. Told through 4 characters, Jim, Older and Youger, and Alyce, Older and Younger, Glory Denied shows us a man and woman torn apart by circumstances no family should ever have to endure.

Among the most famous of Mozart’s operas, The Marriage of Figaro tells a tale of a complex love triangle between Countess Almaviva, her husband, and their serving maid Susanna. On the eve of Susanna’s marriage to Figaro, the Count Almaviva becomes determined to seduce her away from her husband. Having none of it, and faithful to the Countess, Susanna reveals his intentions to his wife, and together they conspire to trick the Count and teach him a lesson about deception and faithfulness. With a stunning score, a revolving cast of ridiculous, madcap characters and plot twists to make Shyamalan jealous, it’s no wonder that this opera continues to delight audiences well over 200 years after its premiere.
